Basic patient rights:

  • the right to receive health services only with free and informed consent,
  • the right to respect, to be treated with dignity, to be treated with consideration and to have their privacy respected in the provision of health services,
  • the right to choose a provider authorised to provide health services that meet the patient’s health needs and a health care facility, subject to exceptions under the law,
  • the right to request consultation services from a provider or health professional other than the one providing the health services,
  • the right to the continuous presence of a legal guardian, or a person designated by the legal guardian, a foster parent or another person in whose care the patient has been entrusted, if the patient is a minor,
  • the right to the presence of a relative or a person designated by the patient,
  • the right to be informed in advance of the cost of health services not covered or partially covered by public health insurance and how they will be paid for, if their health condition allows it,
  • the right to know the name and surname, where appropriate, of health professionals and other professionals directly involved in the provision of health services,
  • the right to refuse the presence of persons not directly involved in the provision of health services,
  • the right to receive health services in the least restrictive environment while ensuring the quality and safety of the health services provided,
  • the right to be sufficiently informed by the provider in a comprehensible manner about his/her health condition and the proposed individual treatment and any changes thereto,
  • the right to ask additional questions relating to his/her health condition and the proposed health services, which must be answered in a comprehensible manner,
  • the right to refuse the provision of information about their health condition, or the right to determine to whom it should be provided,
  • other rights under Act No 372/2011 Coll., on Health Services and Conditions of their Provision (Health Services Act).

Basic patient responsibilities:

  • the obligation to follow the proposed individual treatment procedure if he or she has consented to the provision of health services,
  • the obligation to follow the internal rules of the provider,
  • the obligation to reimburse the provider for the cost of health services not covered or partially covered by public health insurance or other sources that were provided with the provider’s consent,
  • the obligation to truthfully inform the treating health care professional about the current state of health, including information about infectious diseases, health services provided by other providers, the use of medicines, including the use of addictive substances, and other facts relevant to the provision of health care services,
  • the obligation to provide proof of identity by means of an ID card if the provider or the health professional through whom the provider provides health services to the patient so requests,
  • other obligations under Act No 372/2011 Coll., on Health Services and Conditions of their Provision (Health Services Act).
